Her previous experience in the veterinary world brought her to Braden River Animal Hospital in 2006. She was an integral part of building a long-standing reputation of providing excellent customer service to our clients. She has over a decade of experience working as a positive team member in a practice culture and standard of excellence honed by Dr. Terry Clekis. In 2017, Dawn was promoted to the position of Hospital Manager as a founding member of the North River Animal Hospital expansion team.
Now responsible for the daily operations at North River Animal Hospital, Dawn’s duties entail administrative tasks including overseeing proper appointment flow, payroll and other accounting measures, facility maintenance, marketing, vendor relationships, staff supervision and so much more. Most importantly, Dawn is the liaison to ensure that our clients receive the optimum level of care, compassion and empathy when visiting our practice with their pets. A perfect fit to managing our continuing standard of customer service, Dawn has a natural ability to make people smile and build lasting relationships.
“I am honored to continue the high standard of excellence at North River Animal Hospital with our team, as we continue to serve and grow with the community.”
Phillip Coker has a wealth of experience in the veterinary field starting at a young age where he grew up and was mentored by his father, a veterinarian and practice owner in Kingstree, South Carolina. Receiving hands-on veterinary experience during his developing years, Philip first worked in the kennel at a young age gaining experience working one-on-one caring for animals. Next, he worked in the roles as front office reception and as a veterinary technician before later working in the practice as a bookkeeper. Keeping the books for his father during his teenage years is where his love for the administrative and business aspect of veterinary practice management developed into his passion
Phillip then moved to Charleston, SC where he attended and graduated from the Citadel with a degree in Business Management. While in college, Phillip worked as a veterinary technician at Johns Island Animal Hospital and also pursued more academic training at New England Tech where he studied Veterinary Management. Philip next worked as an Assistant Hospital Manager in Palm Bay, FL and also served for two years as a Hospital Manager in Bradenton before joining the founding team at North River Animal Hospital as Hospital Coordinator. His duties include addressing much of the administrative work involved in running a veterinary practice. His ultimate career goals include one day owning a veterinary practice and offering business consulting services to veterinary practice owners.
At North River, Phillip is committed to helping build the essential relationships necessary which support our doctor’s expertise in medicine, surgery and excellent patient care. His warm demeanor and concern for our clients emphasize the shared priority that we, “…work toward building a successful veterinary business in the Parrish community that clients can rely upon and trust.” Phillip has two beloved cats, Stonewall and Jackson. In his spare time, he is also an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and kayaking. A newer transplant to the area, Phillip states “Everyone in the area is very friendly and it’s great to help their pet’s quality of life.”
Lindsey Lavalliere, CVT
We first met Lindsey at Braden River Animal Hospital in 2015 when she began working with us as an Intern while completing her Certification in the Veterinary Technician Program at St. Petersburg College. Several years later, Lindsey has remained with us after her graduation and transitioned over to North River Animal Hospital as another one of our founding team members.
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Lindsey has a very diverse educational and “pet centric” background. She is a graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts where she majored in Neuroscience with a minor in Criminology. She enjoys working with exotic animals and also completed an Internship at the Lowry Park Zoo.
Having a fascination with both people and pets, working in the veterinary field was a perfect fit for Lindsey. She states, “I really enjoyed working at BRAH because I had the opportunity to establish relationships with the wonderful clients and got to watch their pets grow up and receive great care. At North River Animal Hospital, I enjoy being a part of a smaller staff where I am able to meet more of the clients and patients that come through the door as a technician. As part of the leadership team, this allows me to help oversee consistency and our high level of patient care.”
Lindsey is still considering applying to vet school as her career expands in the veterinary world and she has a special interest in pathology. She shares her home with two beautiful dogs, Beauregard and Winifred, who were rescued locally and have their own Instagram accounts. She also has two cats, Peekaboo and Jack who are both “polydactyl” cats possessing extra toes. Lindsey enjoys reading, photography, adult coloring books and wildlife conservation. Above all, Lindsey enjoys sharing special moments with pet owners at North River Animal Hospital, “I love the local hometown feel we have with our clients and their pets. As the surgery technician, this has allowed me to share my own animal surgery anecdotes to hopefully put clients more at ease with their babies who undergo anesthetic procedures.”
An impassioned animal lover, Kristina grew up around animals where she aspired to have a career in the veterinary field from a very early age. Raised in Myakka City, Kristina’s family moved to the area from Des Moines, Iowa when she was still a newborn. She began showing horses at the early age of six and has continued to share her passion for caring for animals in her chosen profession as a Veterinary Technician. As another founding member of North River Animal Hospital’s caring and compassionate team, Kristina has been working at Braden River Animal Hospital since 2008. She first worked as a team member of the Kennel Staff team and was later promoted to Veterinary Technician, a position she has worked in for many years. She is often seen working directly with our veterinarians in the capacity of technical support and patient care as well as interacting with our clients during appointments. She emphasizes her passion for veterinary care and states, “I love working with all the animals and providing excellent customer service and veterinary care. When working in the exam room with clients, it is a more personal interaction where we can build great relationships with our clients and their pets.”
Still a long-term resident of the area, Kristina cares for her three horses and Stormy, her 13 year-old mixed breed rescue she nursed back to health after finding her severely injured in 2008. A special place in her heart also belongs to Snook, a 4lb Yorkie who is her constant companion and a Certified Emotional Support Animal (ESA) therapy dog she has had for two years. Recognizing the special bond that pets can play in the health of human lives, Kristina is an excellent advocate for supporting the doctor-patient-client bond that is so imperative at our practice. Kristina looks forward to a long career at North River Animal Hospital where she is committed, “…to being the best possible Veterinary Technician I can while furthering my education in the field.”
Alyson Haynes began working at Braden River Animal Hospital in 2013 as a very valuable part of the Kennel Technician staff. Since then, she has been working toward achieving her current position as a Veterinary Assistant where she directly supports the veterinary team and our patients. The tenacious work ethic Alyson has shown over the years made her the perfect candidate for becoming a founding team member at North River Animal Hospital. Having not only a deep love for animals, Alyson also enjoys the special bonds that are created with our clients so she can often be seen working in a dual role as a Customer Care Specialist. Always in motion, Alyson believes that being able to cross-train in the different positions available at North River is a favorite part of working on our team. From Palmetto, FL, Alyson, enjoys spending time in the area where she was raised with Moxie, her “spunky and crazy”, 5 year-old Boxer mix.
